Nakuru, Kenya, 3 February 2020: Biovision Africa Trust (BvAT) Kenya, had a meeting with the County Executive Committee Member, Agriculture from Nakuru County to discuss opportunities and strategies for partnership building between the two parties in promoting sustainable agriculture in Nakuru county.

The meeting was attended by BvAT’s Mr. Fredrick Ochieng – Farmer Communication Programme Coordinator and Ms. Pauline Mundia – Outreach Project Manager, Dr. Immaculate N. Maina – the Nakuru County Executive Committee Member (CECM), Agriculture and Mr. Gordon Kojo of Building Eastern Africa Community Network (BEACON).

The meeting ended with an agreement for both parties to formalize the BvAT and Nakuru County partnership with a Memorandum of Understanding. Some of the issues BvAT will focus on under the partnership will be to avail the Infonet Biovision database for use by county extension officers as a source of information, support farmer trainings in organic agriculture,  disseminate hard and digital copies of The Organic Farmer Magazine to the Agriculture Ministry and air radio programmes about and/or relevant to the county through the TOF Radio programmes. The County Government of Nakuru will support linkage of the Infonet website to the County Government website. Farmers trained by BvAT staff will be facilitated to access the County’s Call centre for information and the County extension officer will work closely with the BvAT field staff based in Gilgil.  

This partnership will go a long way in improving the relationship of the two parties and upscaling BvAT work in the County for the benefit of smallholder farmers.
